| | Hi! My name is Elliott...and I am addicted to theological-Princess-Bride-type sword fighting finales.

So, what makes me so addicted to these things? Call
it love of my own pure genius, but I think I have found the answer to
all theological debates.
Now, you must be bursting at the seems to shout me
down in a good way or a bad way. "But Elliott," you ask, "Eternal
Security, cessationism, sinning in
Christ, end time prophecy, Israel-Palestine, capital punisment,
abortion...yada, yada? Because if you do know all these answers,
you are amazing!"
Well, all of you flatter me, but, I believe the
answer to these hot topics comes only in one mindset. That is the
mindset of your own wrongness.
I admit to you all that when it comes to many issues (social and
theological), I have changed sides on some, and I will probably flip
flop a few more times in my life. I will strongly stand only on
The Apostle's Creed and that ministry only comes through and from the Holy Spirit.
Think about all the issues in the world today, and
all the people that sit on many different sides to the same
issue. As sure as you think that you are on your side, is just as
sure as they feel in their explanations.
This brings us to the basis for my *perfect* argument...
Everyone is wrong.
No one has ALL the answer. I believe that most of us have mainly wrong answers,
especially myself.
This is a hard spot to come to. I admit. But
once you get here, there is so much freedom. We are so obsessed
with being right, and we argue and slice each other to pieces with
swords that are to be used on the enemy. Let me use this sword to
show you what our constant attempt to be "right" leads to.
Luke 18: 9
To some who were confident of their own righteousness and looked down on everybody else, Jesus told this parable: "Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. The
Pharisee stood up and prayed about himself: 'God, I thank you that I am
not like other men—robbers, evildoers, adulterers—or even like this tax
collector. I fast twice a week and give a tenth of all I get.'
"But
the tax collector stood at a distance. He would not even look up to
heaven, but beat his breast and said, 'God, have mercy on me, a
sinner.'
"I tell
you that this man, rather than the other, went home justified before
God. For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who
humbles himself will be exalted."
The base word of rightousness is "right". We all think we are
right on things. Just know that the ones that disagree with you
also think that they are right.
So now, I admit my wrongness, but I still hunger and thirst for
righteousness, because Isaiah says I will be blessed if I do. How
do I get right?
Romans 3:22
This righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe.
So, next time someone comes hurling abortion issues, capital
punishment debates, or eternal security, I enourage you to think of a
quote that my friend Jordan definitely stole
"The first one to the cross wins."
Apply this in all your life situations, even in defending your faith
and you will find that being right in debate is nothing compared to
being made right in Christ.
